FAQs

How much do braces cost?

Dr. Wong does not charge a flat rate for braces. Once a comprehensive consultation is completed, Dr. Wong will determine a fee based on the amount of work that needs done and the estimated time it will take to complete the treatment. Treatment is not a “one size fits all.” It is personalized to each individual patient. Each patient is given a fee proposal with a couple different payment plan options.

How long does treatment take?

Teeth move at different rates and if someone’s teeth are going to require a lot of movement, treatment is going to take longer. If someone’s teeth are relatively straight but we need to correct the bite, that may not take as long. Dr. Wong gives everyone an estimated treatment time at their first consultation.

What is the difference between Phase I and Phase II?

In Phase I, there are still baby teeth present.  Phase I involves expansion and sometimes limited braces as well.  In Phase I, we are trying to make a good environment for the adult teeth to come in.  We expand and create more space allowing for teeth to come in properly.  Phase II will follow Phase I once all the adult teeth are in.  In Phase II, we treat all teeth and straighten them as well as work on making a perfect bite.

How young is too young to see the orthodontist?

We recommend having an initial consultation around age 7.  However, if your dentist refers you sooner, we recommend coming as soon as your dentist advises.  In our office, we have had children come in for consultation as young as 3 years old.  It’s never too early to get an opinion on whether your child needs growth and development intervention.

Is the consultation free?

We take a $25.00 non-refundable scheduling fee.  We do this over the phone at the time of scheduling.  There is no charge at the actual consultation.  After the consultation, if you are ready to start treatment, Dr. Wong will discuss the treatment plan, and we will provide a proposal with payment plan options.

Do you take my insurance?

We are not in network with any insurance companies.  However, we will file your insurance for you as a courtesy.  Most orthodontic benefits are the same whether the office is in or out of network so you will likely still get a full insurance payout.  We can file all insurances except for Medicare and Medicaid.
